In October of 2020, my friend Linh and I started our own small business with the goal of creating paper goods that reflected and celebrated our heritage. It was also meant to help us to stay connected as I prepared to move away to Windsor. About a year later, Linh went back to school and had to refocus her priorities, so I took on a sole ownership role. Since then, I've continued to develop BNLstudio as a space for celebrating the 2nd and 3rd generation Chinese-diaspora experience and all the joy, confusion, frustration, and pride it entails.
I work primarily with Adobe Illustrator on iPad. If you'd like to see more, check out BNLstudio's Instagram page or shop the website.
I started dancing salsa and bachata in 2016 at the University of Waterloo Mambo Club. What started as a casual hobby soon became somewhat of an addiction - a way to express and challenge myself and to connect with others in a way that was exhilarating and deeply fulfilling. I went on to learn from Teddy Olaso of Mambo Mosaic (Toronto) and later became an executive member of the University of Ottawa Salsa Club. There, I taught on a weekly basis, developed a curriculum to guide the students' training, and performed at venues such as the Montreal Salsa Congress and Ottawa City Hall.
I currently teach on occasion in the Latin dance scene in Windsor. If you're a dancer yourself, there's a chance we will cross paths at one of the various congresses or socials in Southern Ontario!
